What are some companies like Xometry?

Xometry describes itself as a quoting platform. Its Instant Quoting Engine prices a part and generates a lead time from the 3D geometry of the uploaded CAD file, market pricing and the process, material, finish and quantity the buyer picks, and a test drive on a sample part returns DFM analysis with the price (source 2).

What changes when the print is read before it is priced?

Reading the drawing and your notes turns up questions the model alone does not answer: a tolerance with an extra zero after the decimal point, a hole pattern that has to match a mating part named only in the notes, a finish called out on a face nobody will see. Those come back as questions or as notes on the quote, with a cheaper equivalent where there is one, and the call on changing the print stays yours. The usual catches are listed under design for manufacturing review.

Both routes have a default tolerance for the dimensions a file does not specify. Xometry’s CNC page states that tolerances on metals are held to ±0.005 in, in accordance with ISO 2768, unless otherwise specified (source 1). A STEP file sent here without a drawing is quoted to ±0.005 in on every dimension unless your notes give another figure, and the quote states which one it used. A fully dimensioned 2D PDF is quoted without a CAD line; building a CAD model from a sketch or sample is what gets quoted as its own line. A revised file is quoted by the same contact who quoted the first version. If a part doesn’t match the print, it’s remade or credited.

When is Xometry the better choice?

If the part is needed in days, Xometry’s published lead times are the shorter ones. As of September 2026, its CNC page lists a standard lead time of 3-7 business days, and many quick-turn parts in 3-4 days (source 1), which is faster than any delivery tier here. Rush 1-2 weeks applies to machined parts with no secondary operations. Heat treat, grinding, EDM and finishing add time, and the quote gives the real date.

How do you move a job over from Xometry?

Send the files you uploaded there, as they are, through the quote form or by email. One quote can cover machined and laser-cut parts together, and the processes quoted are listed on the capabilities page. Ask for more than one quantity, such as 1, 25 and 100, and the quote shows each. Lead time starts at order approval. Put your need date in the part description and the quote answers it. If you hold a Xometry quote for the same part, attach it, and the reply is a price that meets or beats that number or a plain no; meet-or-beat pricing says what to send with it.

If your Xometry orders shipped with material certifications or certificates of conformance, which Xometry offers (sources 1 and 2), read this before moving the job. No C of C or material certifications ship with parts by default. If your PO needs them, say so before the quote. Inspection reports on critical dimensions aren’t included by default. If you need one, ask when you place the order.

For a new vendor file, setup takes a day: W-9, NDA, net terms available. Card by secure link (a processing fee applies), ACH, wire or check. Shipping is quoted as its own line, or ships on your carrier account.
